In our house there is a phrase that will always result in a conversation ending in: "Roshambo" (see the links section below) or one of us saying "well, YOU'RE holding him." I'm sure it exists in many forms world-wide, but in our house it is, "Uh-oh, he's making pushy-face."
"Pushy-face" is THE number one most hilarious thing Jake does. It is the one thing he does on a regular basis that will reduce me to tears of laughter. It is currently the one thing he does that I will someday be in trouble for posting on the internet because of his humiliation.
The end result of pushy-face is ALWAYS a full diaper... and not the easy kind. A couple of times pushy-face has resulted in a sink bath (now I know what those sink sprayers are really for). Mostly pushy-face results in laughter and me saying something to the effect of "why didn't I get a picture of that!?"
Well, Matt had the camera handy the other day, and we've finally got pictures of pushy-face to share. So, if you are ever holding Jake and he starts making this face, you know what to expect. And, by the way, YOU were holding him.Comments:Add a comment:

We went out over the weekend and bought Jake a highchair. I don't mean just any 'ol highchair either, this is the granddaddy of all highchairs. I mean the thing even has a "bib bar" on the back. It raises, it lowers, it reclines, it has a tray that can be taken apart and put into the DISHWASHER! I swear, this thing could only be cooler if it made & served margaritas.
Jake seems to love being in a chair that is not only in the kitchen so he can see mommy at all times, but it is tall enough that he can see everything else too. Somehow, the dogs took all of 10 minutes to figure out that THE place to be is directly under it. Oh are they in for a pleasant surprise... eventually.Comments:Add a comment:

One of the things I miss most about working is the sound of the playground at recess... children laughing and playing, its my favorite sound. Funny, as an adult I still LOVE recess.
Jake is good for about 2 minutes of laughing once a day. And, I'm talking L-A-U-G-H-I-N-G! He starts out with a giggle, and if I keep up tickling him or playing with his hands or whatever I was doing to get him started, he goes into full-blown laugh-until-his-face-turns-red laughter! He was doing it the other night, and I'm laughing and jumping up and down all excited, and Matt was sitting on the couch shaking his head (of course he was smiling and loving every minute of it... how could he not?).
The funny thing is, when he's done laughing, he's done. And, no matter what I do he sits there looking at me like I'm crazy. Then he usually falls asleep not too much later. It seems like all that laughter takes so much energy he just has to nap afterward.
Its my new favorite sound.Comments:Add a comment:

There is nothing in the world like baby frustration.
I don't mean, "being frustrated with the baby," I mean the baby being frustrated with something. I actually think it is kind of cruel that babies are born experiencing all emotions so super intensely, and we teach them how to control those feelings until they are so squashed up its nearly impossible for them to tell the difference between angry and sad. But, I guess that's a post for another time.
Since Jake has found his hands it has been a love-hate relationship. He spends much of his day working so hard to get these things perfectly lined up so they go into the hole in his face just so, once they get there they wiggle and squirm (incidentally, just like the rest of him), and they are just SO hard to keep there. Not only that, but he has discovered that now there are FINGERS to deal with! He's found that one or two fingers (or a thumb) can fit nicely inside, but if they go too far he'll gag. Trust me, there is a whole science to this hand-sucking thing. I've seen it.
If mother nature wasn't such a cruel joke, fingers wouldn't wiggle so much, it would be much easier to only find one (and control that one), and each one would be shaped like a pacifier. Oh Fie! Curse thee cruel, cruel nature!
The most noise Jake makes all day long is when he's tired, and trying to sleep and not sleep at the same time. He gets into major arguments with those fingers... some of these arguments can go on for nearly an hour.
The hands (yes both) make it to his mouth where he begins to suck; this results in a loud slurpy sucky sound (which is hilarious, btw). After a couple of minutes this isn't quite soothing enough, so he starts trying to figure out how he previously made those fingers work, grunting and whining at them must have been a part of the process.
He finally gets a couple of fingers in, and always gags the first time... oops, too far. He gets angry with them and the whining and complaining sounds become louder as he works with them again (and that darn thumb, it just won't get it right) and crams another finger or two in there. But, they just aren't quite soothing right, so he begins to yell at them, and drown them in slobber...That'll teach 'em. By now the whining has turned into a screechy whimpery sound, and he is exhausted.
Mommy to the rescue! At this point I usually feel bad for him, and can see how tired and frustrated he is, so I move his hands out of the way and insert the pacifier. At first this instant look of relief comes over his face as his eyes droop and he starts to fall asleep. Then he realizes that this thing is PLASTIC! Apparently this is REALLY frustrating, as he has to spit the pacifier onto the floor, and start all over with the hand thing.
Today this cycle repeated itself for about an hour and fifteen minutes.

Jake has added a lovely new sound to his vocabulary.
Why didn't anyone tell me that babies can make a sound that can only be described as "cat fight"?
I woke up this morning yelling, "Batman! Get out of my house!!"
(For those that don't know, Batman was the name of a neighborhood cat that found our cat door. Oscar didn't like that, and would tell him as much in the middle of the night...at the foot of our bed. I'm pretty sure the neighbors thought I was crazy, yelling at Batman in the middle of the night.)Comments:Add a comment:

Happy Three Month Birthday Jake!
Its amazing how you can go to sleep one night, and wake up the next morning and the baby has learned not one, but TWO new tricks!
At 4:30 this morning he decided he had had enough to eat, but still wanted to suck on something. Jake reached out, grabbed hold of my finger and stuck it in his mouth! It was almost like he knew exactly what he was doing. And, so cute.
At 8:30 this morning he was starting to fuss, so I rolled over to look at him, and saw that he had his thumb in his mouth! Typically he puts his whole fist (sometimes lately both fists) in there, but this morning he found his thumb. The rest of his fingers were playing with his nose.
It amazes me both that he's been here three months already, and that he's only been here three months.Comments:Add a comment:

Jake's first election day!
Stand up and be counted! Make your voice heard, and be a part of history!
If you haven't done it yet, you still have a few hours. Jake will be very disappointed if you don't (I mean come on, he even dressed in red white and blue to celebrate).Comments:Add a comment:
