Telemarketers... its what's for dinner.
This morning I'm having my coffee in front of the computer while Jake happily plays in the exersaucer next to me. He begins to get a little fussy, so I decide its nap-time (for him, not me). As I pick him up the phone begins to ring, so I tuck him under my arm and we go to answer the phone.
As a rule, I only say hello once these days. If no one says anything I give it one more second, then hang up... duh. Well, I say, "Hello?" and hear the tell-tale sound of a computer switching me over to a telemarketer who comes on and says, "Hello? Uh... Hello?" Like I said, I only say hello once so I just waited, and fought the urge to say, "look you moron, I already said hello, when someone says Hello, you start talking that's the way the freakin' phone works."
Pre-baby the guy would have likely hung up... no answer means no one is there. But now, I am holding a squealing, babbling baby three inches from the receiver, which I suppose makes it pretty obvious I haven't hung up on him yet. And, I hear, "Awww cute... well, I'm calling today from ...blah blah blah". And Jake is just chattering away.
My first instinct is to just hang up. That's what I have always done in the past, they start talking, I hang up... easy. But, then I realize he's pretty much talking to Jake. Because I haven't said anything to him... in fact he wasn't even sure I was there, so I know he must have been talking to Jake. So, since Jake doesn't have access to his bank account yet, and has no open lines of credit (that I know of), I put him down in the play-pen, gave him the phone, and walked away.
By the time I came back, Jake had managed to turn off the phone (good baby!). I have no idea how long the guy talked, or listened to Jake slobber into the receiver before giving up.
My phone may be covered in baby slobber... but it was so worth it.
From now on, telemarketers are going on speakerphone. I'm just going to let them talk with Jake until they give up.

At Jake's pediatrician appointment yesterday, we found out that we have a perfectly normal, textbook child.
He now weighs 17lbs. 3oz. (in the 50th percentile) and is 27" long (in the 70th percentile). It amazes me how he can be so big, yet so small at the same time.
So, after he charmed everyone in the office, we took him over for his shots. He charmed everyone over there too. Then fell asleep for three hours. Being cute is such hard work.

Happy Birthday Mommy!
Saturday night we had a couple of friends over to celebrate a milestone in my life. I turned 30 last week... good-bye twenties, hello adulthood.
Jake was the perfect baby. He smiled and played, he was passed from person to person, and when he started to rub his eyes I layed him in his crib and he slept. He was a little fussy when he woke up, all the noise and people were probably a bit overwhelming, but eventually calmed down, ate, and went back to sleep.
He only woke up a little bit when he was transfered from his bed to the car seat, and apparently had a wonderful night with my parents. When I picked him up around noon the next day, he was smiling and cheerful all over again... I think he may have actually been happy to see me.
Thank you all for making my birthday spectacular!
