Yesterday it was waving... he was waving at everyone, of course he didn't start doing it until we left the credit union, but once he started he wouldn't stop. He's gotten to the point where all you have to say is, "hi Jake!" and he'll start waving!
Today its clapping! Hooray! I've been working with him on clapping at least once a day for the last couple of weeks. This morning, nothing... he goes down for a nap, wakes up, has a bottle, and when he finished it, started clapping!
Now Jake and I need to have a talk about consistency. If he could just do this stuff when I want him to do it, instead of on his own terms, I wouldn't feel so silly telling everyone about these accomplishments. As for now I think its big fun for him to hear mommy say, "he waves goodbye all the time! Say bye-bye Jake." Then just sit there and stare at me blankly.Comments:Add a comment:

I am officially a mom. I can't believe I did that. So totally flippin' gross!
So, there I was feeding Jake some yogurt (apple yogurt to be exact), and he's gotten into this thing where he thinks its really funny to put his hand in his mouth right after I give him a spoon full of food. So I give him a big 'ol scoop of yogurt, he sticks his hand in his mouth and grins, I do the usual "ack!" and pull his hand out... only this time I didn't have a burp rag handy... I forgot to grab it... ugh.... so what do I do? Yup. You got it. It only took me about two seconds to pop his little fingers into my mouth and get a lovely taste of slobbery yogurt.
It took me four seconds to start laughing so hard I nearly fell out of my chair. What the heck is wrong with me!? Ick! I swear, this would have never happened if I were feeding him peas.
Only for you child. Only for you.

If you are paying attention, and I know you are, you may have noticed a name has been added to the nickname list. A name that you may think isn't so nice. And, the more I think about it, the more I think I probably ought to explain how the name "short bus" came about.
I have been calling Jake "Shortimus" for weeks. I was being goofy one day (who me? naaaah), and called Jake my fourth musketeer...Porthos, Aramis, Athos, and Shortimus (who needs D'Artagnan anyway right?). One night I said Shortimus, and Matt says,"did you just call him 'short bus'?"
Of course, I just start laughing. Why in the world would I call my child Short Bus? Then again, why wouldn't I? I guess it all really does make sense if you know me. So, ShortBus stuck, and now he is occasionally teased with that new nickname.
Silly-ness based on classic literature, gone terribly wrong.
Yes, I really do think we're going to have to pick out a really good therapist nice and early. Poor kid.

OKAY! All right already! I get it, we all get it, you have no balance or coordination! Please, please, please stop proving it to me!
Jake has been pulling himself up, and letting go just to see how long it will take him to come crashing down. I think we're up to about ten seconds.
I'm going to have to buy this kid a goalie mask. And maybe get myself a portable defibrillator.

Houston? We Have A Bump!
Okay, I know if I don't start writing about this stuff on the date it happens not only am I going to be annoyed with myself, but Jake's going to think I'm a lazy slacker. You guys... well, you all know I'm a lazy slacker who sits around watching soaps and eating bon-bons in a moo-moo all day. I mean really, who am I trying to impress?
I know I've mentioned teething a few times... and really that's just code for 'fussy baby, and I don't know how else to explain it'. But, now I totally feel justified! There is a little white bump in Jake's mouth, bottom left for anyone keeping score!
