Duck Duck Duck Duck!!!
Four or five months ago, Matt and I decided that although Jake was saying "mamamammamamama" and "dadadadadadada" they didn't really count as first words because they weren't really in context, and we figured he didn't really know what he was saying. We decided his first word would have to be a bit more obvious to be "real."
Yesterday we put Jake in the bathtub and handed him his rubber ducky and he said "DUCK!" I couldn't believe it, clear as day, the word Duck! Now, every time he sees one of his two ducks he says "Duck!"
As exciting as it is, its also bittersweet. His first word means that other words aren't too far behind, and once there are words the babytalk starts to go away. Next thing I know he'll be telling people about all kinds of embarassing things, and if he's anything like me, I won't be able to shut him up.Comments:Add a comment:

Such a busy weekend!
We started out Saturday enjoying a picnic in the park with our good friends Julie, Erik, and Courtney. We don't get to see them often enough, so it was tons of fun to spend the afternoon lounging, eating, and laughing. Jake's first picnic was a complete success! I hope we get to do it again very soon.
We came home and all three of us napped for about an hour before heading out to a barbecue with some friends. Jake spent the evening playing with pretty girls, and charming everyone who looked at him! He even got to stay up past his bedtime.
Sunday we met up with a group of mommies and their August babies at a park in Davis. It was so cool to see Jake interact with four other babies his age, and great fun for me to interact with other people my age! We sat around chatting about motherhood, and watching the babies share fruit puffs and toys. It was great, Jake and I had a blast!Comments:Add a comment:

What can I say about my first Mother's Day? It was wonderful. I woke up to Matt & Jake's smiling faces, they gave me a beautiful bracelet that I've had my eye on for a while, and then we went and met my family for "breakfast."
The wait was quite long, but it was so much fun just sitting around talking, drinking coffee and mimosas. Jake was awesome; he waited patiently in a crowded restaurant, smiled and waved at people, and was his typical charming self.
We were able to come home and relax for a few minutes before heading over to Matt's parent's house for a delicious turkey dinner. What a great way to spend the day.Comments:Add a comment:

Jake's first camping trip was WONDERFUL! We had so much fun!
We met up with my parents, my brother, & his fiancee at a campground in Point Reyes. Jake was the center of attention at any given point, and had a great time entertaining everyone!
Except for having to use duct tape to hold together some faulty diapers, everything went so much more smoothly than I expected! I thought for sure things would be a little more difficult. Matt and I hadn't been camping in over a year, and Jake had never been! But, with all the extra hands, and packing five times more than we needed for him, things were perfect!
I can't wait for the next trip!Comments:Add a comment:
